Taper Tip Nature
These shafts are taper tip, meaning the tip naturally narrows toward the clubhead.
Only butt trimming is typically allowed, and tip trimming is minimal and only to fine-tuned characteristics, never exceeding the depth of the parallel tip portion in the hosel.
Recommended Tip Trim
For Aerotech taper tip iron shafts, general guideline: trim up to 1.5 inches for standard irons (e.g., 2–P/W) if absolute custom stiffness adjustment is require.
The i95 can be tip trimmed within .0–.25″ increments for trajectory fine-tuning particularly in stronger hands, without compromising the weight effect.
Tools & Procedure
Tools Needed: Precision hacksaw or rotary shaft cutter, measuring tape, marker, shaft vise or clamp, fine sandpaper/deburring tool.
Procedure:
Secure the shaft vertically in a clamp or vise.
Measure and mark desired tip trim length from the tip.
Cut carefully along the line; maintain straightness to avoid flex inconsistencies.
Use sandpaper to smooth and deburr the edge.
Test fit in the hosel to ensure proper seating and alignment.
Follow up with butt trimming to achieve final playing length if needed.
Effects of Tip Trimming
Shortening the tip increases the stiffness at the tip section, which lowers the launch angle and reduces spin rate.
Minimal changes are recommended—over-trimming may render the tip section too rigid and adversely affect feel and dispersion consistency.
Professional Fitting Recommendation
The i95 is designed for enhanced tour-level performance.
For maximum precision, a professional fitting can confirm exact tip trim needed based on swing speed, ball flight preferences, and trajectory objectives.
